Description
Designed and implemented Ford's first ever universal design system, a tool that unifies design & development with the same visual design language. The resulting design system connects Ford’s vast ecosystem of digital experiences and products.
Overview:
The Ford Design System was created to unify and modernize the user experience across Ford’s digital and in-vehicle interfaces. Recognizing inconsistencies in design standards across platforms, the project aimed to build a cohesive design framework that could scale with Ford’s evolving lineup of digital products, in-vehicle consoles, and marketing assets. By developing a comprehensive system that addressed visual hierarchy, color theory, and accessibility standards, this project established a strong, adaptable foundation to support the future of Ford’s connected and electric vehicle experiences.
Objectives:
The primary objective was to create a design system that not only streamlined Ford’s existing digital interfaces but also laid the groundwork for future applications across mobile, HMI consoles, and marketing. This included setting clear design standards for consistency and usability, creating adaptable components that could be efficiently integrated across platforms, and enhancing accessibility to ensure all users could engage seamlessly with Ford’s products. Additionally, the project aimed to reinforce Ford’s brand identity while supporting its transition into the EV and connected vehicle market, ultimately elevating user engagement and satisfaction.
